Tim asked to explain...

TrainSardine.org has discovered that this week Tim Shoveller, MD of East Midlands Train, is to appear before MPs who have been inundated with complaints from the public. We understand the meeting, at which no passengers will be present, has been called following twelve months of chaos on the troubled Liverpool to Norwich line. Today a woman fainted in an overcrowded train.

We have been noticed

Over 7 million people have had a chance to read about or hear about TrainSardine.org on launch day. We gave interviews to BBC Cambridge, BBC Nottingham, BBC Merseyside, BBC Five live and BBC TV and we have appeared on websites across the country and Metro News. Contact your MP by clicking here.

Comments have been flooding in from passengers following the launch of the campaign. Here is a sample…

I am a daily passenger from Hunts Cross to Manchester Piccadilly. I find myself standing up every morning on a ticket that is £12 return. More importantly I find the whole Safety issue very worrying, as one day a lady who was stood by me was feeling hot, due to the crowded and claustrophobic situation, and then suddenly fainted. I helped her on to a chair with some other passengers, but when we alerted the staff to this situation all they did was open a couple of windows once we arrived at Birchwood and then let the next lot of passengers pile on.   I think its appalling the conditions we find ourselves in every morning, when all you want to do is sit down and relax before the hard day ahead.   I applaud you for making a stand….

I just wanted to say that I saw your article in the metro and fully support you!  I am not on the East Midlands line, but I would hazard a guess that my commute is just as bad.  I get on at the Brockley station on the Southern line going to London Bridge.  It is atrocious most days.  I have to be out there at 7:30, 7:45 tops to even squeeze myself on the train.  There are days that I have not been able to get on, let alone have arm room!  One day a couple less carriages showed up than usual, so I wrote to the train company.  I've written it on my blog if you'd like to check it out.  http://emilyandamber.blogspot.com/2008/11/i-have-had-enough.html

So my question is would you like to start a Southeaster branch?  I'd be glad to send some sardines to the East Midlands manager!

Great site and yes count me in for the fight!

I get that train at 7.47a.m. from Lime Street every day,     ANYONE FOR A GAME OF TWISTER!   or a fight just to get off at Birchwood, just what everyone needs to start the day.   Well done TIM nice but DIM!

Why new services are being introduced when existing services are inadequate.
Why EMT are not using their spare stock on these services.
Why we are being lied to that they have no spare stock when they patently do.
Why so called refurbishment actually is making the situation worse in the short time and will in the long term make no recognisable difference to loading and indeed worsen the position.

Why EMT have not placed orders for new replacement units already if they say that they cannot get spare stock
Why EMT are not speaking to the new train companies to find out how they managed to get stock if there was no spare stock.

Why EMT are not telling their staff to assist passengers in the current situation rather than be obstructive.
Why EMT refuse to acknowledge that their services cannot cope and thus again exacerbate the situation.
Why announcements on the station or the train are not made to apologise or inform passengers to use other services. There are alternatives to EMT particularly on the return leg. However in the morning being the last train to hit Manchester before 9am they have a problem.

Why EMT patently refuse to consider any short term issues to assist the overcrowding.
Why Passenger Focus a body who are statutory obliged to seek the best interest of the passengers consider the current situation unavoidable.

What Passenger Focus are currently doing to alleviate the situation. I mean actual suggestions and details of meetings recently or planned.

What EMT are currently doing to alleviate the problem. I am aware of the report submitted to the DFT in April and yet we have heard nothing since.

When can we expect the new orders of rolling stock to come on line.
